This is a cover I did of Hewlett’s Daughter by Grandaddy. Sadly, Grandaddy no longer exists. Fortunately, though, Grandaddy was mostly a guy named Jason Lytle who is till putting out music.

I used an unusual collection of instruments on this one. The main chord instrument is ukulele. For percussion I used a plastic shaker-egg, a resistaball for the bass drum, and a drum stick hitting a milk crate for the “snare”.

I’m especially fond of the sound of the banjo + Indian bamboo flute blend.  I bought the flute on the street in India for about $3.  As long as you play in a key it likes, it sounds pretty nice.  I also layered a bunch of vocals and got an effect I was pleased with.
